[shadow=black,left,300]KOLCHAK: The NIGHT STALKER[/shadow] Darren McGavin played the character Carl Kolchak, also known as "The Night Stalker", he was impetuous and fast-talking newspaper reporter. This wrinkled-suit wearing, brave news-snooper, always seemed to get the most bizarre and monsterous assignments. His investigations would uncover stories that the public could never read about, because they were too incredilble to believe. However, he had a knack for solving these dangerous and forbidden news articles, but unfortunately, his heroic efforts were seldomly rewarded. The list of criminals Carl Kolchak thwarted included: Vampires, Jack the Ripper, a headless biker, a swamp monster, a zombie, a werewolf and many other strange beings.
Kolchak first appeared in a tv pilot called The NIGHT STALKER (1972), he was in Las Vegas, Nevada at the time, and went up against a fiendish vampire. His second tv pilot was called The NIGHT STRANGLER (1973), in this movie he goes after a killer in Seattle, Washington, who is trying to become immortal. After the two tv piolts had aired, fan letters poured in by the truck-load, they were all asking for more!. So, shortly afterward the television series began, but unfortunately, it was short-lived and taken off the air. The show just couldn't compete with so many already popular programs, most people at the time, didn't want to see a tv horror/drama show. But just a decade later, the program returned and became a cult favorite, and now, today, The Night Stalker series and movies are on dvd!

For some unexplained reason, it reminds me of A Street Car Named Desire (which is kind of funny, since I havent seen it!) The Night Stalker looks like a mix of the X files and Columbo! (in a good way) I take it, that you are a fan, Beastie?

I'm glad you enjoyed it, my Rabbit friend. I thought this video would help people who are unfamiliar with this early 1970's show. (below: a tale by Starbeast)

A pentacle! There is no connection to Kojak (sp?) , the detective who likes lolly pops?

Pentangles are usually found in fictional magic, I do understand though, that orignally in real life, long ago, it represented a good sign.
And Kojack is completely different to Kolchak.

Oh no, I'm sorry you couldn't find it at your rental store, you may have to order it through the mail as a purchase. Unless, you have access to a rent-by-mail service.
I hope you're able to see the Night Stalker Movies, and then the series.

I hope so too. I shall keep looking for Kolchak "a news reporter who in his free time battles the supernatural" ;D
