South Side Of The Sky
On a freezing Sunday morning, the moon still hung in the black sky, Agent David Fox walked down the path from his house, something that he will not do again for a long time (he suspected). Agent Fox zipped up his coat, adjusted his back pack, put on his gloves, wrapped his scarf tighter (as you can see, it was cold) and let out a breath that was visible in the cold air. Yes dear reader, our brave Agent Fox is going to the Snow Mountains to find the legendary Snow Mark. Fox didn’t really have a reason; he was just the curious type.
Walk.Walk.Walk.Walk.
A day passed. Two. Three. Four… Week. Weeks. Month… Months….
Agent Fox was still walking trying to find the path that will lead him to the mountain. Food was not too much of a problem, and there were plenty of gazelles around, his water supply was growing low though, but luckily for him it began to rain. In no time the rain turned into icy darts that pricked Fox’s nose and cheeks. When he looked up, his eyes opened wide and in one motion he ran towards a tree and hid behind it. Those really were icy darts, not rain. They were coming from the sky like a rain of spears and pin pointed the wet ground.
“I must be near” muttered Fox in quite voice to himself (as there was no one with him really). He figured that he can’t stay behind the tree forever, and it seemed that the driving rain wont stop for a while, so he decided to risk it. He will run to the nearest shelter (not that there was one in sight, but he hoped that will change). And run he did. He ran as fast as he could (and believe me, that is fast!) on the muddy ground and between upright spears.
He twisted his foot and fell. With paying no attention to the burning ache in his foot he yanked two spears and blocked the spears that came towards him. Suddenly the rain of spears stopped and it rained normally. Fox decided to keep a handful of spears with him, just in case. He tried to get up but his the pain in his foot was too strong. For a minute or two Fox just sat there in the middle of where ever he was in the pouring rain massaging his foot. He realized that his face was stinging, and he guessed that he probably has a million cuts on it. “I hope it shaved off the beard” he muttered in his nasal voice to himself. He didn’t have the chance to shave, and he hated wearing a beard, made him look older than he was.
However this was not the time to think about looks. A massive hurricane was sweeping its coming towards him. Ahead of him there were a river and a mountain to be crossed, it began to snow as well, and above al that, his foot was sore. “If I don’t want to go straight to the eye of that hurricane I better get a move on” he said encouraging himself. Through terrible pain, he cried out and began limping his way to the river.
The hurricane was coming closer
Uncleverly, Fox stopped to look back “I could have died” he thought to himself. In that moment a lightening struck. “Better keep moving”. He limped his way to the river but, as he was getting closer, he stumbled upon a rock and fell into the river
For the limitedly short time that he was inside the river, he saw really incredible things. There was a whole new world under that river. It was all golden, golden forests, golden seas, he felt in sanctuary there. But his head was telling him that he will soon drown if he will not resurface, and sorry as he was to leave this wonderful place he returned to the blackness. Gasping for air and dripping wet, he climbed out of the river. He was so cold he began to shiver. His clothes were sticking to his body, his cuts were stinging even more and he couldn’t feel anything. It was so cold, that he cried
Lightening strikes and hits him. That was no ordinary lightening. With a mighty unseen force Fox was thrown back to the river and through its magnificent world. He kept being sucked into oblivion. And now was the right and convenient time for him to lose consciousness.

Sole Survivor
He was alive. He was not feeling very much a live, but since he could feel, and think he gathered that he is not dead.
“Or maybe this is heaven” he thought out loud “funny, though, I always had in mind that heaven was all blue and cloudy and in the sky” he looked around him “this is definitely not the sky!” And indeed it wasn’t. It was a very beautiful place, so colourful and happy yet there was no living thing there. The plants were so tall towering over, there were cellophane flowers of yellow and green, tangerine trees, and marmalade ground (ha gotcha, reader!) There seemed to be some substance floating about. It was either extremely small stars or millions of tiny bubbles. Fox tried to catch some to study them closer but they dissolve when they got in contact with his touch. Fox marvelled at the sight in front of him. He sat down on the marmalade sand and soaked up the warmth.
Lying in the warmth and tranquillity, Fox was still feeling weak and now he alsohad the sense that there was someone behind him. He looked to the left, there was no one, and to the right there was no one. He turned his head to look behind him and saw…. Himself!
“Eh?” Fox said in confusion “Yea, I know it’s not a common thing” said the other Fox (we’ll call him David, to distinguish) “What do you mean, ‘not a common thing’? “I am your soul” “I am in heaven then!” Fox said half jokingly “Course you aint!” “I don’t speak like that” “I am not you, I am your soul, I have a life of my own now that I am not in you, as it were” “You know, I think I am loosing my mind” Fox decided and he slapped himself (and believe me, that would be painful) “Ooh, why did you do that for!” said David who was rubbing his cheek “Oh I see, what I feel, you feel” “Seems like it. It’s strange for me too, I’ve never been out of you” “Well, I am David Fox, nice to meet you, er, David Fox!” he said and offered his hand to shake the other man’s hand. But David didn’t come closer than he was. “Fine” said Fox and let his hand drop “I can’t move!” said David. Fox stood up and walked towards David who seemed to be further and further with each step that Fox took “What is it with you! Stop moving away from me!” shouted Fox “I am not moving on purpose! It’s my legs … they are just moving whenever you move” “It is so weird to have your soul out of you.” Fox muttered to himself (and this time it was indeed to himself) “I don’t care, you can stay there” Fox said and began thinking out his plan of action. “Hey, Mr Soul , do you know where we are? Hello? Soul? David? Fox?” but there was no answer, and there was no soul in sight. “I think I am loosing my sanity!” said a truly worried Fox. “Don’t you worry” came a pleasant voice “I have found your soul, or rather, he found me” In front of Fox now stood an old man, wearing a red football uniform and he spoke in a French accent. “Who are you? Where am I? Am I dead? How can my soul be wondering about? And what on the Land of Confusion is going on!” said an angry (or perhaps scared?) Fox “Relax, young lad. All in good time” the man said and sat next to Fox , David was within distance of Fox and also sat down. “I am the Wondrous Story Teller, they call me” “They? But there is no one here” “Just because there are no humans here, that does not mean that there is no one here.” He paused to let Fox think “the plants, the river, the sky… we all communicate and I tell them stories that they all really like. So you see, we are not a lone. One is never alone, isn’t it right?” he looked at Fox “I…well, I suppose so.” “Good. Well, it was nice to chat with you-” “But you only just came!” “Oh this is not goodbye, I am just going home” “Isn’t this your home?” “It is, but I mean my house. Feel free to visit me. I will explain everything to you tomorrow at midday – don’t be late” “But ... How will I find you?” “I live on Highburry Hill, just over there, it is impossible to miss” he said and pointed towards the direction. “I see” but he didn’t. “I shall see you soon” “Yes… thanks. Before you go” Fox hesitated a bit before asking “If I am not dead, how is it possible for me to see my soul?” he looked down as he felt a bit foolish asking such unusual questions “You are the Soul Survivor” and with that the old man disappeared

Wondrous Stories
Fox awoke that morning, by the river. Clearly he fell asleep on the shore, to the silent rhythm of the small waves. He yawned and stretched out like a cat. It seemed quite strange, while he was thankful for that, but his body didn’t hurt a bit. The way he was feeling no one would have said he went through a snow storm. David, his soul, was asleep a distance from him. Fox decided to take the opportunity to freshen up in the river. “Thanks for the shower” said David “Huh?” said a bewildered Fox “Oh.” He remembered: David feels whatever he feels. “Don’t mention it. If you want I’ll bring a long the rubber duck next time” he said with a one sided smile. “So what are we doing today?” David asked all excited “Well how about breakfast first” “Hey it’s quite good being your soul, we can save in that way” “Save?” “Yea, instead of getting two of the same thing to eat, we only need to have one”. Fox didn’t really know whether to take this as a compliment or not. So he just smiled. The trouble was of course, that the place was dead. There were no shops or food courts, it was just the nature. Fox didn’t have anything against the nature, but he didn’t see himself eating plants. “Alright, my second half” Fox said and turned his head to David “got any ideas?” “Do you like fish?” “Not raw fish” “Well, what time is it? I daresay it seems more like lunch then breakfast, judging by the sun” “Lunch?!” it is probably wise to note that Agent Fox never misses his breakfast. No matter what’s going on, he has to have some sort of breakfast. “But that is terrible!” he quickly checked the time “Oh blast you are right! It is almost 12! I have slept right through breakfast!” Fox said cursing beneath his breath. “Hey didn’t that old man told you to come at midday?” “Blast you are right again!” they both went hastily to hear the old man’s wondrous stories.
At the old man’s house
They ran up the hill which seemed endless and when they got to the top of it they rang the bell. “That was a steep cl-” Fox stopped abruptly as he looked back at the climb which was a perfect straight linear path “climb.” “Do join me” the old man’s pleasant voice was heard. Fox and David followed the voice (and their noses, for something was cooking in the old man’s kitchen) “Smells good” Fox pointed out the obvious “Yes, I must say I agree with you. It is called Fish a la Fume. A very traditional dish here” while he was rambling Fox’s stomach was rumbling. It looked absolutely delicious and smelled that way too. “Here’s your plate” and the plate just flew over to Fox. He stared amazed “How much would you like?” asked the old man, smiling “A… Just a bit” Fox said still thinking of how the plate flew. In a second, without anyone moving, “just a bit” of fish materialized on Fox’s plate. “What the…?” “Hehe” the old man chuckled “I am just showing off. There’s magic everywhere” and with that they all moved to the garden. They ate in almost silence; Fox was too busy tasting the most delicious food. “That was absolutely magnificent!” Fox said truly. “Ah, thank you. I am glad you liked it. And now” the man put aside the plates, clicked his fingers and they disappeared “to business” But before they could do that, a quarrel was heard “Can you hear that?” asked Fox “Yes, it is probably Ian and George arguing who will wash the dishes.” “Ian and George? I thought this place had no living beings” “They live with me. They don’t really go to the world beyond the hill” “…Right… I suppose that’s for the best?” said Fox who didn’t really see a reason why it should be for the best, but he was trying to make a conversation “Yes. Funny, it’s their surnames. Ian Right and George Best” said the old man and then added “We have a joke that Ian is always right but George is always the best.” “Haha” Fox gave a fake laugh for he did not see the joke “Well anyway. To business.” Began the old man “Yes” agreed Fox “Yes” repeated David. Both Fox and the old man looked at David who blushed under their gaze “Where would you like me to start?” “The beginning I am guessing” said Fox who was starting to feel uncomfortable “The beginning is one place I’ve been to before, watching the sunrise on a silver shore… that’s how it’s all began” “What did?” “Huh? Sorry, my mind is drifting away. Sorry. Back to you. Tell me what you are doing here” “I am not sure what I am doing here. I am not sure where here is, but I am on my way to the Snow Mountains” “Wow, you are completely off your track” “Oh blast” said Fox rather uncaringly. “Why are you going there?” “That’s…. my business” said Fox cautiously “I don’t mean to sound rude but— ” “I understand. So you found yourself here. You fell to the river?” “I did, yes” “You entered the Octopus’s Garden” “Did I? I didn’t see any octopus” “Of course you didn’t. The Octopus is gold like his Garden but golden slumbers filled your eyes. He sent me a message that a human is coming and I thought it might be interesting to see who it was and how they got here , so when you fell again, I just sucked you into here.” “So it was you who caused me to fall!” Fox realized “You struck me with a lightening!” “No, my dear lad, it was not I” said the old man caressing his jaw bone “it was a coincidence that you fell again, but the lightening that sounds interesting. Was it an ordinary lightening?” the old man asked casually “It was a yellow lightening, that’s what I remember. It got me, and I fell.” “Yellow lightening, you say. It must be the Queen.” “The Snow Queen?” “You’ve heard of her?” “Only in legends” Fox said carefully making sure he wont mention why is he here nor will he mention any connection to Albert. “Well, we’ll come to her later” offered the old man, sensing that Fox was reluctant to talk about her “that lightening split you and your soul in half. That is why you soul is out of you” “But shouldn’t I be dead?” “Well, clearly there’s something in you that prevents that from happening. Will to stay alive, for example?” “I suppose. So what do you know about souls?” “Your soul is you, yet it isn’t.” “Ah, that makes sense” said Fox sarcastically The old man ignored that comment and continued “As you have probably figured out, he can feel what you feel, but only physically. For example if you fall in love, he wouldn’t feel what you feel”. Fox tried really hard not to blush, but it was in vain “Why can’t he come near me?” “Ah, ever heard the term six degrees of separation?” “I… yes, I have” he knew it was something to do with time travelling, he thought. It rang a bell but a very faint one “Good. Well as you move there will always be six degrees separating you from him. But when you don’t move he is free to go where he pleases.” “Oh right, that explains a few things” In no time, the old man led Fox and David to big gate. “Thank you for coming. I enjoyed our chat very much” “What! You can’t just finish off here! What’s your hurry?” said an angry Fox “ I must get packing” “Packing? For what?” “I am living Highburry, I think we must leave right now” “But why!” “Queen’s orders” “But you are not her subjects” “Well, she likes the place here, and she is more powerful than I am. So it is time to leave.” “No! You must fight for your right. She can’t just come here and order you to go” “What is the point of fighting a loosing?” he sounded rather pessimistic for his nature “I thought you are better than this” “Oh I am. I will get my home on way or another. We will always be the boys from Highburry, we’ll carry it in our heart’s forever but right now we got to leave.” “Well, I hope we meet again and that everything turns out for the best.” “I hope so too” “You never know where you may find help” “Oh, I believe that help finds you” and with that the old man dissolved into thin air.
“Well, at least we know more about eachother” Fox shouted across to David who nodded. “There is one thing I didn’t ask. If one of us dies…. Will the other survive?”

The Blue
“So if were sucked into here, to get back we must be unsucked.... so it must be reversed somehow....” “Cut it off, David, you don’t even know what you are talking about.” David and Fox were sitting on the warm sand trying to figure out a way to get out of this place because according to the old man they were off track. At times like that Fox wished he had bought a map with him. “Do you have a map with you?” David seemed to read Fox’s mind “No” was the plain simple answer “So... you went on an expedition without a map?” “Yes” “Isn’t that a bit.... silly?” “Maybe” “Are we playing the one word answer game?” “That’s it! I’ve had it! I will just sit here try to think of a way to get us out of here and you are free to go wherever you want alright? And please use that privilege or if you do decide to stay here please be quiet!” shouted Fox, crossed his arms and turned his back to David “Clearly not” David said quietly (referring to his previous question) “The snow queen, lives in the snow mountains.” Fox began deducting to himself “we are currently at a very sunny place, that means no snow. We came here through the river. If we go into the river, and find that Octopus then maybe he could get us out of here.” Satisfied with his deductions, Fox stood up and called David’s name. No one answered. So he began walking and naturally David was behind him. “What did you get up to?” asked a nicer than before Fox “Just looking around, there’s not so much you didn’t miss.” “Anything interesting?” “I found a grave of a lady. On her epitaph it said ‘all that glitters is gold’” “Did you touch it?” “No” “Good. Never touch things in unfamiliar places” said a knowing Fox “But I did fall over it” “Oh brilliant” “It was your fault. You moved” “well let’s hope noting bad will happen” Fox did not want to admit that it was his fault so he tried to balance the situation.
They began walking aimlessly. But something was wrong. The weather began to change, it was no longer sunny and warm, but it grew cloudy and grey. The wind began to pick up paste. The landscape too, from beautiful colours changed into dark blue. And coloured them blue. “Do I look blue to you?” David asked randomly when he noticed his arms “Blast you do! And me too! My arms!” Panic caused Fox lose his temper “it’s all your fault! See what you caused when you fell over that grave!” “What! How do you know it’s to do with that!” said a hurt David “What else could have caused that!” Fox lost it and threw himself upon David, which of course, was useless because David only got further away from him with each step. The two stopped their running, hands on knees catching their breaths.
A deafening sound was heard. It sounded like a million crackling lightenings. The ground began to move under their feet. Dust flew into their eyes and all over them. They couldn’t speak, or see, so Fox began running forewards, to get out of the spot they were at.
Some light was coming through. It was quite a faint light, so Fox assumed it was the midnight moon. He was always told that the sun is the reason for us to be here and that we must always follow it... but should he follow the moon? Two lives were at stake: his and his soul’s. That question he did not ask the old man... will the answer be revealed now?
He could smell the sea. The salty air was all about him. If he could get into the sea, he could find that octopus and all will be for the best. He looked back, just in case, David was still running. When he looked back ahead of him it seemed to him that the sea was disappearing! “Wait! Wait for me!” Fox screamed against the dust and the force of the mighty wind. A loud deep groan was heard and the waves rolled so violently and washed over Fox and David. As if the sea had a body of its own, they were in the sea’s fist, lifting them into the blue world. They seeped right through , silence was drifting through, they tried to get out of the sea’s tight grip but they were too weak.
They found themselves on an island. Nowhere to choose... soaking wet, shaking with fear, weak from struggling and running, cursing the expedition, feeling dizzy.... And everything was blue... so blue.

Stairway To Heaven
Fox and his soul, David, were no longer on an island. They didn’t know where they were, but it looked like a vast forest. The world of blue turned into green and brown. What they didn’t know was that, the Octopus found them on the Island and threw them back to the surface. However, the Octopus’ Garden lies very near to the Sea of Time and when passing through it a memory loss may occur. All they remembered that on one night they were engulfed in blue and mapped the stars. They lay side by side between the moon and the tide, not thinking about how to get out of wherever they were, they were just lying there eyes fixed at the stars. It simply felt right.
They stopped for a breather.
“I never liked forests at night” remarked Fox “I never liked forests full stop.” David replied looking to his sides nervously “It is such a big place, something or someone bounds to be out there looking at us, watching us, right this instant” “The last thing we need now is paranoia.” Fox said unsympathetically “That true” he said and didn’t mean it as he kept looking around every now and then. Fox looked to his left. There was something there that didn’t let his conscious rest. “Hey… you know, there’s this feeling I get when I look to the west…” he pointed to his left. A faint white streak of curved light seemed to come from the ground. It metamorphosed itself into a woman who offered Fox her hand. “It’s her! It’s the lady from the grave!” David said in a small scared voice “Fox! We must leave! Please! Now!” David cried for leaving. But Fox was still staring at the faint lady in front of him until David tucked on his sleeve so violently that his concentration broke. At that moment the lady dissolved into thin air and whether it was her or some unseen power, something whispered “Fox…. Your stairway lies on the whispering wind” “Did you hear that?” Fox asked trying not to show his concern “Yes. Now, please let’s just go away from here!” And so they wind on the road, their shadows taller than themselves, the forests were echoing with laughter and behind them there were rings of smokes coming through the trees. Fox stopped “can you smell it? There’s someone here” “I told you!” “Someone’s smoking.” Fox said with a disgusted face. He had bad habits, but smoking was not one of them. David was tugging Fox by the sleeve again like a little child “Fox…. Fox….” “What is it?” he turned to look at David but then his eyes followed to where David was pointing. “It’s just a hedgerow” Fox said plainly “But there’s something there! I heard a bustle!” “Don’t be alarmed now” said a low raspy unfamiliar voice. A lot of nicotine passed through those lungs, Fox thought. He tried to make out the who the black figure who spoke to them was. “Don’t be alarmed about the bustle. It’s just a spring clean for the May Queen. I believe you have met her?” “We are not aware of that…. Sir” Fox said and watched as the man lit another cigarette. “You probably know, but aren’t you afraid you will damage your health?” The man inhaled deeply and let out a train of smoke “let my health not concern you” and ironically he fell into a fit of coughing. “Who are you?” asked David, who wished he hadn’t because now the man noticed him. “Let my name not concern you” and he inhaled the nicotine again. “How intriguing” mumbled Fox. The man side smiled. “Well gentlemen, can you hear that?” a faint piercing sound was heard “it is the piper calling you to join him” “The piper?” Fox asked “OH NO!!!!” David screamed and fell into a fit of panic “Calm your soul, Fox” said the man and it made Fox wonder how is it that this man knew his name and the fact that David was his soul. “There’s two paths you can go by” said the man between intakes of nicotine; he pointed the two roads. One was full with brown leaves and the other was laid with stone. “Which way are you heading?” he asked as casually as he could “Let our course not concern you” answered, rather cheekily, Fox. The man gave him his one sided smile again “You learn quickly. Much like someone I know…” “Who will that be?” “Do not let his name concern you….” The man said and watched as Fox gave him his one sided smile “for now” he added. “Well, which road leads where?” “One leads to heaven, the other to hell” “You are not serious” Fox replied judging the man’s statement by his characteristic smile “You are a fast learner.” The man said, and stuffing the cigarette into the ground, he lit another one and said “I have not been down those roads. Why don’t you split, you can find out what’s on those roads.” “No, thank you, I have been split before” Fox said looking at the terrified David “we’d better get going” he told the man “Of course.” He then added “I like you, Fox. I am sure we will meet again” He turned on his heels and left letting something fall out of his pocket “Hey you dropped…” Fox shouted but the man kept on walking as if he did not hear Fox. It seemed to Fox that the man deliberately did this “What is it?” David asked “It’s a lighter” Fox said while studying it. “There’s an inscription here” “Don’t read it out loud! Maybe it’s a spell!” “Nonesense, David.” Said Fox and tried to figure out why he doubted reading this out loud now. David’s paranoia got the better of him and he simply read it in his head. He passed the lighter to Daivd so he could read as well. David read the inscription, and returned it quickly to Fox “What does it mean?” David asked “I don’t know yet” answered Fox. He looked at it again… those black letters outlined in gold on silver background… it made no sense what so ever. “Well, let’s take the leaves paths.” He pointed towards the path that was covered in brown leaves.
All the time they crunched their way down the paths, the inscription on the lighter was the main thought on their minds. The inscription was “Trust No One”

Don’t Leave Me Now
And so our two friends (if your soul can be counted as a friend...) were walking down an endless path covered with leaves that lacked potassium (i.e. they were brown) “Where do you think this leads to?” David asked “I’ve got no idea” was the casual response from Fox “Do you fancy taking a breather?” “Sure why not” They found a dry spot and plonked themselves on it. “So, what do you intend to do now?” asked David (he seemed to be in a very quizzical mood) “What do you mean?” “Well, suppose this leads us to the Snow Mark. Then what?” “Oh umm, we’ll know what it’s all about” “Then what?” “Then we’ll know” “But how will we get back?” After a long pause Fox replied “somehow” Suddenly the ground began to shake and pleasant music of a symphony of flutes filled the air. All the brown leaves turned to green and flowers began to bloom. The sun shone through the tall tangerine trees and birds were filling up the marmalade skies. A new path of grass was at their feet that ended in a river and a boat was waiting at the bank. They got onto the boat and drifted past the flowers that grew so incredibly high.
When they got off the boat they took a newspaper taxi and told the driver to take them to the city centre (as the driver didn’t reply when they asked where they were) They arrived at what they assumed to be the city centre. But instead of the sunshine and happiness they came in by the were now surrounded by greyness and sadness and a pool of tears that the rain left. There were two girls there sitting on a bench with paper on their laps and a pencil resting on their papers. They looked very sad and gloomy “Is something the matter?” asked David the black haired girl. When she looked up David was struck by her beauty. She was the most beautiful creature he had set his eyes upon. But she did not answer, only let a tear trickle down her face and drop on her paper “What happened ?” asked Fox the other girl , the blonde hair one with the sea shell eyes. “They took Lucy and stole her diamonds.” She answered in a quiet voice, her lower lip trembling. “Who is Lucy?” “She is our aspiration, she is our guardian, she is our law, she is our mother, she is our sister, she is our friend, she is everything to us” the blonde haired girl said and wiped a tear off her face “Who did this?” asked David looking at the black haired girl who did not utter a word yet “The blue meanies” “That’s.... a name?” “They hate it how we have happiness and love here because of her so they took her to make us all feel bad and powerless. We are nothing without happiness, friendship and love. All we need is Love” “Love?” asked David “Love” confirmed the blonde girl “Lovely” said Fox “We’ll see what we can do” said David and Fox looked at him, as he wanted to go to the Snow Mark not stay here battling a clan of brutes calling themselves Blue Meanie. But he nodded his agreement “Oh won’t you please, please help us!” said the blonde hair girl and for the first time David saw hope and happiness in the black haired girl’s face. She was so magnificently beautiful “What are your names?” asked Fox “I am Julia and this is Michelle” “And what are you doing here, it seems like it’s going to rain” “We are paperback writers. Trying to come up with something, but there is so much negativity and hate all around us, that we can’t come up with anything. “Right. Well, why don’t you tell us more about those Blue Meanies and –” a loud thunder stopped Fox from finishing his sentence. Rain began pour down on them increasing with each drop. “Let’s get out of here!” shouted Fox through the deafening thunder. They all stood up and David took hold of Michelle’s hand and ran together. They halted when they came to a wall. “Now what!” shouted a frustrated Fox “We can’t go beyond it. The Blue Meanies built it” when she said that the ground began to crack and halved it in a way that the two girls and David were on side and Fox on the other. An invisible force was driving him towards the crack. David on the other side was comforting Michelle “David! Stop hugging the girl and help me!” shouted Fox against the force Michelle began to tremble and whimper in David’s arms not wanting him to go “Don’t leave me now! Don’t Leave me in the pouring rain, with my back against the wall. Don’t leave me now!” But as Fox couldn’t go against the force anymore and fell into the crack, David had to follow unwillingly.
It was a long fall, but when they landed they were unhurt. A screen of smoke was covering them. A familiar voice greeted them “I said, we will meet again”

The Snow Mark
And as you might have guessed, they were in the presence of the cigarette smoking man. They were in a cave with nothing for furniture except a wooden chair that had a lamp attached to it. Fox and David were each tied and lying on the cold stone floor and the cigarette man were sitting on the chair, in the spot light from the lamp, smoking away. “Untie us now!” commanded Fox “Not yet. I want you to hear me first and then I will untie you” was the response “you can lean against the wall, if it makes it more comfortable” “Oh he is so caring, isn’t he David?” Fox said sarcastically moving towards the wall, David moving with him “Watch it Fox.” The cigarette man warned. He came closer and crouched next to Fox looking at him straight in the eye. He then inhaled and let out a line of smoke to the side of them. “If I won’t kill you, this will” said Fox regarding the cigarettes “Threats already! Why would you want to kill me? I am one of you after all” he said that leaving Fox to ponder and moved over to David “Now you, David.” He lit another cigarette “must be very strange for you to be walking about. Would you like to get back into Fox or you would want to be cut off him and be forever with Michelle?” he said seductively and watched David’s face expression turn into anger. He continued “knowing of course David, that if you go back to her, and Fox stays here (because he vows to kill me).... you will be apart” he watched David’s angry face change into a frightened look because he knew what is coming next. The cigarette smoking man stood up and with his back to David he said “and he will die” Fox alarmed, looked up. “We don’t need your emotional black mail! ” “It is no black mail, it is the truth. You two cannot be apart. Isn’t this what the old man told you?” David could not control his sobbing anymore and let out a moan. “David, this is not the time!” said Fox trying to sound calm “I will get us out of here” “Really how?” asked the cigarette smoking man Fox simply stared at the man. “What do you want?” “I want you to hear me out. Without interruptions, nor threats, nor violence. Is that too much to ask for?” Neither Fox nor David said something and the silence prompted their captivator to continue. The silence lingered on when he lit up another cigarette. “Now. Tell me why are you going after the Snow Mark” Fox did not reply “Oh come on Fox. You got to be cooperative. You don’t want to sit here longer than you need to. Think about, David. Any minute that there is silence loses him a minute with Michelle. How about the other girl... Julia? Don’t worry, Dana won’t find out.” “You black mail us, now with love? I was beginning to think that you know nothing of it” Fox said through gritted teeth. Oh how hate the man standing in front of him “Oh I know about love. It is a powerful tool. But it is just a tool. But it is up to the wielder how to use it. Isn’t it funny that love can make one so happy yet it could destroy one and others at the same time?” “Are we going to have philosophical debates here?” said Fox who was determined not to let this man’s evil tongue corrupt him “If you answer my question, maybe we will get somewhere” “What was your question?” “Why did you come after the Snow Mark?” “I heard about it from a friend, and I read all the myths around it so I went to explore. Satisfied?” “Why so negative, Fox? All I am doing is trying to gain some knowledge from you. Is that so bad?” “You asked, I answered. Anything else?” “So impatient, Fox. Well, tell me, what did you find about the Snow Mark?” “Nothing. I did not find it. Nor anyone who can tell me about it.” “Incorrect” he said and inhaled deeply “here I am” “I am glad my eye sight is good” said a sarcastic Fox “I can tell you about the Snow Mark. It is my mark. When people come near it, I take them for questioning to see if they will follow me or not. If they do then they become part of my cause and if not, I send them back to where they came from and erase their memory of anything to do with me, of course. Does that sound fair?” “What cause?” “I, like you, and your dear friend Albert, is a Time Traveller. “ “Congratulations” “Haha! Panic laughter is it, Fox?” the man laughed sadistically “my cause is to share our secret with the rest of the world. Why should we be a secret? With our powers, our visions, we can come together, unite as one .... why be kept away from other species. We live in the same world, we are a society , in a society conformity is the key. Otherwise we become the lone wolf. And as you know , the lone wolf belongs to the wilderness.” “That’s very noble of you” said Fox understanding the man’s thoughts but he had to tell him that it wont work “but we can’t conform. We are a special race. If everyone will know about us they will abuse us” “How do you know that? Don’t you have faith in the human race?”
Indeed here Fox was lost for words.

The End
Fox didn't dare to look into the man's eyes. It's not that he did not have faith in humans but more that of the fact that something so extrodanary will shake them violently. And the force of either the human kind or the Astral Travellers will dictate to be drawn more to the good or bad side. Suprisingly it was David who spoke out Fox's thoughts
"So you are saying it is like the Income Effect in Economics" the cigarette smoking man stated "huh?" replied David "I never did Economics" "Precisely. In which case I suppose you have not heard of the invisible hand?" "No" answered David honestly "The Invisible Hand guides anyone and everyone. It dictates a decision" "Wh.. What are you saying?" Fox was begining to see where the man was going "your face tells me you understand Fox. Go on, you tell me" the cigaretter smoking man lit another cigarette while Fox spoke "You mean, it's an inner force?" "Well done" he puffed "And? This inner force of yours in most people I can assure you will be to view us in negative light. Conspiracies... they will blame everything they can't explain on us" "There is some truth in what you say, Fox, but there will be a group of people who will join us" "Naturally. You will create two groups. The majority and the minority. Ever studied the Russian Revolution? Mensheviks and the Bolsheviks... rings a bell?" "I was there, Fox" the smoking man smiled "At that time, the majority won. This time, the minority will" "You dont know that" "I have reasons to believe it true" "Why is there some kind of prophecy you follow?" blurtted out David "The prophecy that we all follow." There was silence. "You mean, The End Prophecy?" asked Fox The cigarette smoking man fell into a fit of caughing. When he finished Fox said "That prophecy is about the last war between us. It is not the war of the humans" "Ah but that is where we disagree" he coughed "How do you know of the prophecy by the way? I dont recall you at any Council meeting" "Someone told me" "Albert perhaps?" he siad as a matter-of-factly "Got it in one" Fox smiled slightly. "Well you can tell Albert that I have interpreted this prophecy the way he does up until one day I realized that it means something else." "And how do you know that your interpretation is the right one?" "It just seems plausible to me. More than the other one" There was silence again "Now what?" David said quietly "Yea, we heard what you got to say. Can we go now?" "Well that depends. Will you join my .... "team" " "Team?" "Yes, I just... recruit people" "You capture them?" "Well yes, this is one way of getting them to listen to me. I dont hurt them do I? I just bind their hamds" "That's not fair" exclaimed David trying to get his hands free "Even if they swear to kill me?" he looked at Fox and inhaled the nicotine "Know Fox, if you kill me, kill one man like me, and you will create a whole crusade" "So you did all that to me? Separated me from my soul?" "No, that was the Queen I believe. I only asked her to slow you down and make you change your course. She went too far." "The Queen?" "The Snow Queen" "Ok... but why did you ask her to do that?" "She was trying to get you to her so that you will lead her to Albert and she can have her revenge. But I had other plans for you. So I got you here. I know, it wasnt an easy journey, but at least you had company. But to answer your question: I like you Fox. You have a sharp mind, you are clever, you notice things, can see things from both sides... you would be great in my team." "Well... N-n.... Umm....I will... I wont be able to.... It's not...." Fox was trying to make up his mind "Trying to make a decision, Fox? relax, let the Invisible Hand do it for you" "I won't join you" he said after some time "Que sera sera" "Fine." the man came over to them and untied their hands. Fox and David automatically rubbed thier wrists "Why are you doing this? My knot wasnt that strong" And funnily enough it wasnt. Infact, if they would have put more force into it, they could have untied themselves, but they were to busy listening to the cigarette smoking man. "You are free to go. But I will always watch over you Fox, in case you change your mind" "I wont" "We'll see" "You said trust no one" reminded them David "I am no one" he looked at Fox even though he was answering David. Fox and David began to take thier leave. But there was no ordinary leave, after all they fell through to here. "Can you help us to get out of here?" "I will" "So all my expedition... was for nothing?" "Dont sound so defeated" "But it is true. Nothing good came out of it." "Oh.... well there is always Abacab" "Aba-what?" asked David and Fox in unison "That Blue Meanie your lady friends were talking about. His real name is Abacab." "Well how do we defeated it?" "Oh...." he smiled "What?" "You will find the answer. Just let the Invisible Hand guide you."
And so the reader, the ending is near. And it's a good ending. Fox and David were thrust up into the land they were before. It was very simple to defeat Abacab, the four of them had so much will power and love that Abacab was weakening by the minute. Everything coloured up, and in the sky there was Lucy waving to her people riding on a rainbow.
"Thank you thank you!" Julia and Michelle said excitedly. "Well it was you two as well." David said blushing "Yea, all we did was whisper words of love soft and true. We just took that and threw it at him. Made more, and threw it" "And in the end we won" Julia said smiling "Yes, in the end the love we took is equal to the love we made" Michelle said mysteriously. "I havent lost one inch of love" "Neither have I" said David and looked at her. She blushed under his stare. She kept looking down and then up, to check whether he is stil looking. And he always was. Fox was decided to help David and so he sat down with Julia and gestured David to take Michelle somewhere more intimate.Afterall, when Fox is not moving , David can go wherever. And David and Julia walked hand in hand, and stopped when they got the Strawberry Fields. And here, the Invisible Hand did her works!
Fox seems to have dozed off, but he felt someone touching his arm. Was Julia? But no.... "Gillie!" he shot up from his bed "Hey Dave!" she smiled sweetly "you were exhausted when you came back. How was it?" "Oh it was good, yea. I havent found it but... it was a good holiday" he siad in his tired voice "I'm glad you are back. Remember that last case we had? The one before you took off?" "Yea" "Well, remember that Albert dude? He invited us for tea" "Oh... when?" "Half an hour" "Alright. I'll be ready in a bit" "ok" and she left. He got up , had a shower and tried to shook away the sleepness from him . He was only in a towel when Gillian came in without knocking "Gillian!" "I forgot to tell you not to forget to shave. The beard, Dave... its a no-no" "Sure" when she left he just had to utter a small laugh.
Clean shaven he came to meet Gillian waiting in the garden. She showed him something "Are you back to smoking?" "No" "What's this then?" she refered to the lighter in her hand "Don't know. Maybe someone left it here" Nevertheless he took it from her and put it in his pocket. They got into the car and drove over to Albert and Kite
Yes dear reader this is the end. It is probably a good thing to mention that when they defeated Abacab the cigarette smoking man sent them back to home and erased their memories of meeting him and going through all those places. David went back into Fox and all that Fox remembered was a general snow expedition and that he did not find the Snow Mark. Oh, and that lighter, as you might have guessed, had an eye to both sides of a statement. And the statement was: Trust No One
