This is a music video that a friend mine put together, he has a great interest in tribal music, as I do. And he wanted to display his talents on Youtube, but he doesn't really want to pursue a music career. I got in touch with him a few weeks back, and I told him I thought his tune and the video were cool. He thanked me and said: "I may do another tune on Youtube sometime in the future, but it's hard work and I'm too lazy."

That's a very cool tune indeed! And I like your friend's answer "it's hard work and I'm too lazy" ... I can so relate to that! I suppose that you (and him) would really like the songs Inner Light and Withing You Without You, from the Beatles?

I like just about everything the Beatles did. I'll tell my friend that you can relate to hard work, when you feel like it.
If I wasn't pursuing a writing career, I'd definately go into making my own music, and I don't care how hard it is, cause life is tougher.

You can stil make your own music as a hobby.
Are you saying that you are an actual writer? Like, a real one? As in that's your job?

You can stil make your own music as a hobby. I Know. But, I want to focus efforts on one thing.
Are you saying that you are an actual writer? Like, a real one? As in that's your job? No, I would like to be a professional writer. But I'm getting back into the groove of being serious about the craft. So I'm practicing, with made-up short stories by using other people's work. For non-profit exercises of course.

I Know. But, I want to focus efforts on one thing. That is true but you can always multi-task. Besides, I always thought that once you know how to read and write music, you should be set. You can teach it yourself, and then when the muse is upon you. or you are taking a break from writing, write tune. But yes, I know it's easier said than done No, I would like to be a professional writer. But I'm getting back into the groove of being serious about the craft. So I'm practicing, with made-up short stories by using other people's work. For non-profit exercises of courseAll the best with that. From what I read you have a talent in writing and imagination. You have a fan

I wouldn't mind multitasking, but with music, I can't do it alone, I need to get other people involved, because it would have to be a joint effort. So, I'd have to keep after everyone, and try to get us organized...etc. Writing, at least, I can work on that on my own.
Thanks for being a fan of my work, I have alot of fun doing it.
I do also like everyone's efforts in writing too, there's a great deal of talent on this site.

So what are the Darbuki Kings? Is it the people in the clip, or your friend's band?
So what is it about tribal music that turns you on , as it were (sorry about the choice of words!) I mean, how would one go about it, is it by choosing a tribe from a country , from a particular century?

HONEY BUNNY: "So what are the Darbuki Kings? Is it the people in the clip, or your friend's band?"
STARBEAST: "Darbuki is an old tribal name or word, I can't remember which. And yes to both parts of your second question."
HONEY BUNNY: "So what is it about tribal music that turns you on , as it were (sorry about the choice of words!)" STARBEAST: "Don't worry about your wording, I understand what you mean. I enjoy the sound made by the ancient instruments as well as the many different languages out there on this incredible planet. I do have some favorite Russian classical and folk music that I enjoy. I saw the 1971 FIDDLER ON THE ROOF movie the other day, and my favorite part of the film is when the Russians start singing and dancing in the tavern."
HONEY BUNNY: "I mean, how would one go about it, is it by choosing a tribe from a country , from a particular century?"
STARBEAST: "CD stores help, but now there's the mighty Youtube!

Do you know what's weird? I was in a Russian music mood, and maybe I was affected by the music you put on here, but a while ago I randomly listened to some songs from Fiddler on the Roof... and now you mention it! Coincidence or what? I am not sure which date the version I saw is from, but the song Anatevka is so beautiful! (makes me misty-eyed....) and Sunrise Sunset.... the music and the lyrics... they are just too true and too beautiful! I can play most of the songs from Fiddler on my flute! I am proud of myself.
And yes, I too like songs of different languages.
